As we take the time to celebrate yet another 4th of July holiday, let’s do remember what this celebration is all about.
Do we find ourselves a bit spoiled rotten? Sometimes we do don’t we? On this day we will find ourselves feasting while partaking in skiing or tubing on the waters with friends, some enjoying their favorite drink, grilling out, BBQ, others gorging on a watermelon-my personal favorite, while others anxiously await the huge fireworks spectacular. These and the bald eagle have all come to represent what we enjoy the most during the holiday. Some of course, are off from work because of the holiday that is what they choose to do-absolutely nothing.
These are just a few of the many luxuries and freedoms we have been granted on this day. The land of the free and the home of the brave. When we hear the words 4th of July it is usually with a bit of pride and we poke our chests out. While the flag has the stars to represent each of the states, the flag all together represents FREEDOM.
We still have a few who place themselves in the spotlight and choose to boycott or stomp on the red white and blue flag of these United States. The flag that symbolizes lots of cool things. We have seen it trampled, spit on, set ablaze. Why? Does this mean that these individuals are truly expressing their beliefs by utilizing what they claim are their First Amendment rights? These forms of expression just aren’t right in terms of what many claim is their rights. We have been citizens who have been proud. confident and united as one yet these few have chosen to divide this country by acting selfishly.
Our 40th President may have expressed it precisely.
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” – Ronald Reagan
All these symbols have come to represent who we are as Americans and have helped to shape those that will inhabit this wonderfully blessed country. We have been bestowed God-given rights that hasn’t been mirrored anywhere else in the world.
“The American, by nature, is optimistic. He is experimental, an inventor and a builder who builds best when called upon to build greatly.” – John F. Kennedy.
So the next time you see an American flag, speak with a veteran, or celebrate the 4th of July, remember how blessed a nation America is and how valuable the freedoms it possesses are.
Vigilance, Loyalty, Faith and Justice. That is what the American flag represents.
