We look around all the time and we are certain that there are some changes taking place around. It might have just happened or is in the process of being done.
Swimmers are amazing athletes. To swim means that one is using pretty much every muscle in the body. Even novice fitness enthusiasts know that swimming serves as an aerobic, full-body exercise with a myriad of health benefits. Swimming does not result in massive muscle gains but serves instead as an extremely efficient way to tone — or firm and define — muscles from nearly every part of the body.
Most swimmers like to strip the clothing to almost nothing-going as far as shaving a lot of hair off including the head. Whatever it takes to take that resistance away while in the water and be more competitive. Many of us have a need in our own lives to strip some things to help make us that more productive Christian that God has commanded of us.
There are some things that we just aren’t going to change. Some of these “things” are called idols. Merriam-Webster tells us that the definition of idol 1 : an object of extreme devotion a movie idol also : ideal sense 2 : a representation or symbol of an object of worship broadly : a false god 3 : a false conception : fallacy 4 : a form or appearance visible but without substance an enchanted phantom, a lifeless idol. An image worshipped as a god can be a number things that keep us from worshipping or serving our Lord. Leviticus 26:1 1″‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.”
In truth anything can become an idol if you set it above all else.
So you see we need to shed these things. Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And, let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.”
Are you ready for changes to be made in your life? Strip all that bad stuff off like swimmers have done and bring in the new, good stuff that will allow you the opportunity to let others see Jesus on your face, smile, your heart and that Jesus is there with you and can also be with them.
The deeds you do may be the only sermon some people will hear today.
