Today, I choose worship over worry. I choose faith over fear. I choose peace over panic by believing in a sovereign God who gives us all His saving grace. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him. Psalm 62:5 O God, hear our prayers and draw near us. Light our way in the darkness and fill us with Your peace.
The last several weeks have been some of the darkest moments we’ve ever seen with the global pandemic Coronavirus. Without question unprecedented in our lifetime. And, times we should all hope and prayer we will never witness again. But in the midst of the fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, remember that like the early witnesses to Christ’s resurrection, we stand before an empty tomb. He’s not dead. He’s alive!
The devil certainly has been one busy individual. We can rest assured that God has us right where He wants us to be. While we are having lots taken away from our lives; social contact, shaking hands, hugging, kissing, smiling without having to have a mask on, Church services have had to be cancelled, tithing has dropped tremendously, elective surgeries put on hold, and families not allowed to be near a loved one either entering an emergency room, a surgical room or a hospital room to take care of their loved one. Some have died alone with family being forced to wait it out.
What we have seen is lots of research being studied to devise a vaccine, quick testing equipment being manufactured, families spending lots more meaningful time together and neighbor helping neighbor. We have seen a call for more reinvestment potentials for U.S. manufacturing and engineering feats. Crime has lowered, car pollution gone down, and most importantly individuals are seeking THE right answers from the Bible. Bible sales gone up in some cases 80% and Christian website visits have flourished.
One of the most dangerous parts about this COVID-19 virus is once it finally ends. Why? Many people have been drawing near to the Lord out of desperation and fear. But prosperity has a way of causing us to forget God. Stay vigilant. Devote yourself to Christ in the good and bad.
We are entering Easter 2020 doing something that has never been done ever; view Easter services on a computer or a smart phone, whether be it live or taped. Some are even attempting to have drive-in services to the chagrin of authorities.
We all must remember that we are not having anything taken away from us. We should be listening to the authorities and obey the 6 foot social distancing and washing hands on a regular basis. This is what is best for all individuals we could potentially come in contact with that do not need to have that at this time in their lives. This current reality is not what we would have chosen for ourselves or our churches. That choice was not ours to make. In these days, let us make the choice that is ours by acting, as followers of Jesus, with courage, faith, and love.
I think this a time where we need to be feeding our faith,” New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado reminds us. “If you feed your faith, your fears will starve. If you feed your fears, your faith will starve. Our tendency is to feed our fears. We have to do intentional things to feed our faith.”
Choosing faith over fear amid the onslaught of negative headlines begins with thought management.
So, let your fear of inadequacy drive you to the One who is waiting to empower your service. Ask Him to lead you to someone you can help in his strength. And know that He will use your ability and availability in ways you cannot imagine today.
No matter what you’re facing today, Jesus’ resurrection means evil doesn’t win-even when you find yourself surrounded by darkness.
