Have you been carved out yet? Is God still working on you? While this time of year is always a blast to be involved in–candy, treats, goblins, pumpkins, dressing up, time for scary moments and horror movies, etc. Please do not spend too much time celebrating a haunted night. Do not get too wrapped up in this money grabber. This is a night where the candy makers and costume designers make tons of money. Some do see Halloween as harmless fun. Trust me, I participated as a kid and still do as a parent.
Halloween can be traced back over 2,o00 years ago to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in) in an area later to be known to us as Ireland. They believed that the dead could walk among the living at that time. The Celts dressed up in ghoulish costumes so that wandering spirits would mistaken them for one of their own and leave them alone. Others simply offered sweets to the spirits to appease them.
The Bible does warn us in Deuteronomy 18: 10-12 that we are not to consult ghosts or spirits or call up the dead. Remember it is a celebration based on false beliefs about the dead and invisible spirits or demons. He also tells us that we cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of the demons too. 1Corinthians 10: 20-21
How is being a Christian like being a pumpkin? God picks you from a patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Cuts off the top & scoops out all the ugly stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. and then He carves you a new smiling face & puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see. Author Unknown
